Madville Shares Secrets From Rolls Royce Marketer, David Ogilvy
Are you guys in for some gems this week or what?
Madville, who specialises in Ads just dropped some great advice on our discord for those of you who want to get into writing ads but aren’t sure where to start.
Also known as “the father of marketing,” David Ogilvy was the mastermind behind Rolls Royce, Shell and Dove ads. Attributing the success of his campaigns to meticulous research on consumer habits, he sent an internal memo to the employees at his agency titled…
“How To Write.”
Check out these timeless tips that you can use in your ad copy below:
1. Read the Roman-Ralpheson book on writing. Three Times.
2. Write the way you talk. You don’t need to find your inner voice. You already have your own voice. Record yourself talking about what you want to write. Then transcribe it. Right there, that’s your inner voice.
3. Use short words, short sentences, and short paragraphs. Do you ever cringe when you receive an email with a scary wall of text? And what about those sentences that are so long that leave you without breath? Cut out the noise. The easiest way to do it is by reading your text out of loud. If you get caught up, you must simplify something.
We were taught to write in an extremely specific way in school and unfortunately this doesn’t translate well in real life scenarios where you’re trying to sell a product. But here’s the thing, anyone can be a writer. You just need to practice the right techniques.

📧 REMARKETING
How To Make Your Email List Happy… Right Now!
If you’ve ever watched the hit TV show Seinfeld you’ll know it was referred to “the show about nothing.”
But what does this have to do with email marketing and how is it supposed to make my subscribers happy?
Email marketing specialist, Roslyn explains the method behind the bizarre comparison.
Entertainment.
The Seinfeld method to email marketing is about storytelling to entertain and build trust with your subscribers.
These stories could be about anything. They could be focused on education or even a thought provoking epiphany you had on a saturday morning. The key is to lead back to products your selling in some way. Whether that’s mentioning them in copy where it’s relevant, or even showcasing images to break up your blog style content.
This is the art of subtle selling: there’s no spamming here!
In the end you’ll make your subscribers happy by giving them interesting content and you’ll get more sales as a result. What a win!
🔎 SPOTLIGHT
Kingsley’s Growth Mindset And How You Can Adopt It To Shape Success
A growth mindset is the idea held by individuals that skills can be developed through hard work, good strategies and input from others. These types of people tend to achieve much more than their fixed mindset counterparts: Who believe talents are “innate gifts”.
By adopting a growth mindset it puts you in a position where you have agency over developing your career rather than counting on some obscure glimmer of luck.
Kingsley explains how he went from finding one client on Instagram in 2020 to getting 43 clients by September 2021.
That is an amazing achievement!
And that’s not all, Kingsley now has email marketing and paid ads in his arsenal of marketing skills.
Growth mindset allows you to learn in a healthy way without judgement. By keeping an open mind and allowing yourself to make mistakes you will inevitably fail forward. This is exactly what Kingsley has put into practice and he is reaping the benefits from it.
You just need to take the first step and show up.
