Imagine starting off your career as a joke. You are just having fun with your friends and then boom – you have over a quarter of a million followers.

This is exactly what happened to Robbie @everydayrobbie back in 2015.

He thought it would be funny if he made a random short video of himself taking a burrito out on a date. He put together 5-6 clips and posted them on social media. Naturally, his friends loved it.

Little did he know, so would everyone else!

He is now a daily content creator and creates videos for Instagram, Tiktok and Youtube. Whether it’s ASMR, short comedy or branded content for a company, Robbie feels that he has really found his calling, even though it came to fruition through casual comedy.

With Content Comes Challenges

Robbie recalls that his biggest issue when starting out was figuring out his niche within the sphere of comedy. He remembers trying just about everything and being very experimental in the process.

He created prank videos, random street interviews and even attempted food challenges.

“I’ve been through it all”

After about 6 months of trial and error he found his place.

His niche? Short comedy.

Another big content creator challenge many creators have is actually staying creative. Especially in a world where every single idea seems to have been released online already.

“When I’m not in a creative mindset, it’s extremely hard to think of new ideas for videos. It can get super frustrating. You’re going to have off days, but you just have to keep on moving forward!”

Standing Out From The Crowd

With the vast amount of content released everyday, standing out from the crowd and positioning yourself in a unique way will help your brand survive.

“I think the main thing that makes me different from other influencers is my strange type of humor. Especially my ASMR videos…they definitely reach a whole new level of weird…like eating an entire jar of mayonnaise type weird. I basically try to stay as original as possible as I think that’s what people like the most.”

You really have to put yourself out there and not be afraid of people seeing you online if you really want to maximize your chances of success.

Even capitalizing on any talents you have and merging them with your content can work well.

“I’m really good at doing Gollum impersonations from Lord of The Rings. Other than that, I’m pretty average at everything else.”

We love a good Gollum impression at Furlough!

Thinking About The Long-term

Robbies long term goal is to build up a successful and well known name brand. He plans to launch his merch store in the next year as a building block to this. He told us that on Youtube, he is considered a small creator, so building up his presence there will really set him apart.

And of course you can’t forget:

“Another long-term goal I have is to just be happy with what I’m doing and what I’m making!”

Goal setting as a creator will keep you focused on making good decisions that will add up to your success. But of course, there’s no point in putting all that effort in if you are not happy by the time you have reached those goals.

Seeing past the vanity metrics and focusing on making yourself happy is a good mindset to have.

“My main motivation is definitely seeing my supporters engage with and enjoy my content.

There’s no better feeling than seeing comments like, “this video helped me get through my day.”

Or “thanks for helping me get through my depression.”

Getting people to laugh or smile through my content is easily one of the best feelings!”

It is amazing that someone halfway across the world can see a comedy video and be affected by it in such a positive way.

“You’re not considered “weak” or “different” if you struggle with mental health. It means that you’re simply a human.”

Mental health is definitely a struggle for so many people. Having an outlet and being able to forget that you are sad, even if it’s for just a few minutes can really help turn things around, little by little.

A Critical Moment

One of the big pinch me moments that happened to Robbie was when The Rock…

Yes…THE ROCK reposted one of his videos on Instagram back in 2015.

“At the time, I think I had like 20,000 followers and I grew to about 60,000 overnight. I remember the next day I was like, “Man I can really do this whole comedy thing.”

Time Machine

We asked Robbie, if he could go back in time, what would he do differently.

“Man, that’s a tough question. I would probably go back to when I was like 15-16. During high school, I always cared way too much about what other people thought of me. I felt like I was anxious or stressed 24/7. Life’s too short to act a certain way because you’re afraid of what other people think of you.”

I think when kids are growing up, there is an immense pressure to try and fit in. This is only natural for teens who are unsure of themselves and trying to find their place in the world. In comedy, you absolutely need to separate your self-esteem from what other people think about you.

The great thing about that, is the freedom to live your life the way you want, without limitations.

Robbie really encourages his followers to follow their dreams and passions in life.

“Don’t get caught up if your family and friends judge you because of it. I feel like so many people think they need to work 9-5 type job their whole life because it’s the “right” thing to do in society. Many don’t chase their dreams because of this. You don’t want to be 75 years old, sitting in a rocking chair, regretting not trying a certain career or passion.”

It’s better to regret having gone after your dream, than sit there and wonder what could have been.

Target audience/niche?

“My target audience is just about any age and any gender.

It seems like most of my followers are in their late teens/early twenties.

Regarding my niche, you definitely need to have a strange taste in comedy to fully enjoy my content.”

Brand Collabs you are proud of?

“I actually just recently worked with SyFy on one of their new shows called Alien Resident. The show premiered last week on TV and it was hilarious! I would love to work more with upcoming artists and rappers in the future. Aside from content creation, I think music is one of my biggest passions, so it would be cool to network with some of these artists.”

Future Projects?

“I currently don’t have any specific future projects, but be prepared for a whole lot more of ASMR this year. Things are about to get STRANGE.”

Sounds exciting! We can’t wait to see what Robbie has in store next!
